Around a central chimneypiece with fireplaces on each side, a variety of well spaced seats spreads over broad polished boards, from a leather armchair and low sofa covered with bright scatter-cushions to pews, cushioned stools and chairs around sturdy tables. There are one or two pictures on the smooth pink walls, varnished joints in the cream ceiling, and comfortable backed seats along the long rather smart bar counter ... The softly lit no smoking dining room has high-backed settles forming intimate booths around some of its tables ... Two nice touches: the boot-washing tap, and what is certainly the best pub hitching rail for visiting horses that we’ve seen.’
